9 Aug 2014: OMG talk about an epic drama! I’m excited my book became a New York Times Bestseller this week. But amazing it happened on the same day Amazon went very public in their battle with Hachette (my publisher) and 900 authors took out a full page ad in the New York Times against Amazon…http://bit.ly/XQrRGc
Here’s an extract from this article: “Hachette saying that it would be suicidal to accept Amazon’s proposals, and Amazon that Hachette should “stop using their authors as human shields”.
On the one hand, it’s really great that we managed to make the list in spite of these issues. On the other, it is pretty amazing to have a front row seat to the seismic changes taking place in the book publishing industry.
You might have got the Kindle email today comparing the battle on ebook pricing to paperbacks which says: “Perhaps channeling Orwell’s decades old suggestion, Hachette has already been caught illegally colluding with its competitors to raise e-book prices. So far those parties have paid $166 million in penalties and restitution. Colluding with its competitors to raise prices wasn’t only illegal, it was also highly disrespectful to Hachette’s readers.”
What do you think? Do you think Amazon is right or in the wrong?
In the meantime, I am currently both a bestselling author and apparently a human shield for an illegal cartel. So it’s poetic that I share the list with “The Alliance” and “Goodnight Darth Vader”.
There’s a book in this somewhere…
(and please, look beyond the dark side and pick up a copy my book – it’s worth it, really!http://bit.ly/mmp-kindle)
Oh – and did I mention, I made the New York Times Bestseller list! YAY!
