A year ago, Jon Bon Jovi opened the Soul Kitchen as a community restaurant, with no prices on the menu. Diners in need who come to the Soul Kitchen are empowered – they earn a seat at the table for themselves and their families through volunteer hours at the Kitchen or other local organizations. They are served by the wait-staff with the dignity of having earned their meal.
Those who can afford to dine anywhere are rewarded with not only a delicious meal but an invitation to donate, and that has resulted in over 11,500 meals in the first year with over 30% going to those in need. Over 12,000 volunteer hours have also been clocked in the first year.
